We had great attendance today. Maybe it was the weather. Maybe it was the subject of our speaker. Maybe it was c) all of the above.
Good News Bucks included:
*Chris F-- 17 gallons of Syrup completed this year
*Crissy- visit with her mom who is 102. Plans to return by Easter for another visit. Crissy is also promoting the annual Daffodil fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. You may recall she is very grateful to this organization for the support she received while her husband Al was ill.
*Nanci- Her husband Pat is recooperating well from recent back surgery. She also attended the Mishawaka Rotary After hours event last night. Had a really good time. Encouraged us to participate in their events to show support and have some fun as well.
*Tatiana is working with exchange students at the University of ND. They are planning to attend our upcoming Trivia event. They currently have 4 tables of 10.
*George is back from Costa Rica. Had a great time. Said the diving was some of the best he has ever experienced. Beautiful and rare aquatic life.
*Tama- her son Forrest was home for part of his Spring Break. Great to spend some quality time together.
Not a good news buck but Diana was able to join us today. It has been a while since we have seen her. Really nice to have her in the room again.
Rotary News:
-Our service project for March is to supply paper products for the Living Matthew 25 group that spoke with us a few weeks ago. There will also be a provisions bag filling event to be held at Holy Cross College in a couple weeks if any of you would like to participate in that as well.
-Trivia event is April 19th. Crissy spoke to us about getting round sponsors and event sponsors. She also asked for contributions toward gift baskets to be raffled off also.
-Reminder: the District Conference is the next day April 20th.
Today's Speaker was Aaron Helman, local author, historian, and folk lore enthusiast.
He has written 2 books; An Incomplete History of St Joseph County IN and Ride the Jack Rabbit people places and events that make South Bend fascinating. He also wrote a children book called On The Southernmost BEND, A beginning History of South Bend. He shared with us several sources of wonderful local information about the stories he shares in his books, and shared several of those local stories including things about Samual Huggart, Bone and Sineau, North Liberty's famous residents including Schuyler Colfax and the world famous Circus Leader. NO, they are not one in the same person, but both resided there about the same time when there were only 28 residents in the community. Aaron was a wealth of interesting information on local history. Tatiana spoke to him about possibly coordinating another play at the South Bend Civic relating to local history; much like the recent one on Red Lining.
Hope you all have a fun& safe St. Patrick's Day this weekend.
